Cashmere Cat | Soundcloud

It’s hard to believe that it has been nearly a year since Cashmere Cat graced us with his beautiful debut EP Mirror Maru. Since then he’s been garnering more and more acclaim; getting booked at festivals and events around the world, most recently opening for Dillon Francis on his I Don’t Give A Fuck or Santa tour.

Today our favorite feline released “With Me”, his beaming new single. While showcasing his distinct production style along a melancholic piano intro, the uplifting synths and percussion climax is unlike anything we’ve ever heard. “With Me” will be featured on Cashmere Cat’s Wedding Bells EP, set to released in January. Kitty’s back y’all.

What So Not

It’s been nearly five months since our favorite Australian electronic duo What So Not released their debut Quack EP. Fortunately for us they dropped a free new single dubbed ‘Touched’ just the other day. With Flume prepping his Deluxe LP, and Emoh Instead recently releasing his Say So EP, our boys are continuing to take the international music scene by storm. The new single retains the warm synths, jungle percussion, heavy bass and unmistakable tropical vibe that we’ve come to love so much.

Apparently ‘Touched’ was started three years ago in Flume’s bedroom the first time the duo worked together. Their words:

“It feels symbolic that three years on we find ourselves coming full circle to finish this same song we started that very first day. From my 9-5 desk job to now writing music & DJing around the globe. From his bed room ambitions to being the forefront of dance music subculture. We’re still two young dudes.”

Wave Racer

Australians have continued to churn out some of the most innovative electronic music of late. Sydney native Wave Racer harnesses the happiest and bounciest sounds to create some of the most catchy dance music out right now. Basically think Rustie, Cashmere Cat and CRNKN had a threeway baby that loves arpeggios, and you’ve got Wave Racer.

The guy’s been at it for only five months and has released two astounding originals and four remixes. His most recent release, a remix of Australian band Panama’s “Always” refines his signature sound. Future Classic just released a video for one of his tracks ‘Rock U Tonight’ which you can check out after the jump. If you’re looking for a good rhythm to bounce around to, I highly suggest listening to Wave Racer.

Haim | Buy ‘Days Are Gone’

Ever since Haim dropped their debut EP Forever early in 2012, their buzz has been real. Since then, the hype for the three San Fernando Valley sisters has increased exponentially. I can gladly say they exceeded all expectations with the release of their LP aptly titled Days Are Gone. The trio’s first full length album is a diverse concoction of influences. From indie, soft rock, and pop to RnB and punk, the girls manage to create their own unique sound.

The first three tracks off the album will be familiar to anyone who has gotten to know the band over the years, but that certainly isn’t a bad thing. Standout tracks on the album include ‘The Wire,’ a stadium ready rock song, ‘Days Are Gone’ a modern take on indie disco, the riff heavy ‘My Song 5’, and the RnB influenced ‘Let Me Go’. Overall, the sisters have really outdone themselves with this release. I was lucky enough to catch them live at Treasure Island Festival last week, and wow…they are truly something to witness live. Their energy and stage presence is something you need to be a part of first hand. Haim has nowhere to go but up, and I plan on seeing them topping festivals as a regular in the future.

Danny Brown | Buy ‘Old’

Danny Brown came barreling at us with his third LP, OLD, which dropped last Tuesday. The now semi-infamous Detroit MC shows his versatility on the two “sided” album. Danny’s one of those incredibly divisive rappers; not only for his imagery and lyrics but for his voice. If you’re here expecting him to sound different vocally than on any of his other releases, I’ll save you some time here. Side A has Danny rapping about his former life of dealing drugs and struggling to survive in one of America’s most dangerous cities. It also garners some slightly more traditional hip hop beats.

Collaborators on this side include Freddie Gibbs, Schoolboy Q, and a standout track with Purity Ring that truly features both artists at their best while complimenting each other perfectly. The follow up side opens with the aptly named ‘Side B (Dope Song)’, one of the three tracks produced by Rustie on the record. Side B is a straight party album with some seriously club ready bangers. Fool’s Gold head honcho A-Trak also produced a song for his signee, ‘Smokin & Drinkin’ that is sure to please fans of both. A$AP Rocky and Ab-Soul make appearances on ‘Kush Coma’ and ‘Way Up Here’, respectively. All in all OLD is a testament to how well Danny handles the most eclectic array of beats I’ve heard on an album. Lyrically and creatively OLD has managed to become one of the best hip hop albums of the year.

Indian Summer

It seems Australians are set to take over the electronic scene in the same way the French did in 2006. Aussie Duo Indian Summer have yet to reach the exposure levels of some of the torchbearers like Flume, Ta-Ku, Chet Faker and Motez but don’t be surprised if they do. These guys just might be more on the dancy side and rely a little heavier on bass.

The two have released a steady stream of singles, remixes and an EP since beginning roughly a year ago. They also recently recorded a set for Australia’s Triple J Mix Up (think BBC Radio1 for Australia) that should be checked out. Whether this is your first foray into music from the land down under or you’ve been enjoying it for a while, Indian Summer is not to be overlooked.
